Nigeria, Cameroon and DR Congo in Trouble

These 3 hashtags are being used on all social media platform to bring awareness to this issue #EndSARS #EndAglophonecrisis #CongoIsbleeding Nigeria has been suffering from bad governance, corruption and police brutality. Recently, under President Muhammadu Buhari, Nigerians took to the street to protest EndSARS to end police brutality in Nigeria. SARS is Special Anti-Robbery Squad which is a unit of Nigerian Police Force created to take care of criminality and other vices in the country, however the officers took laws into their hands and started abusing innocent Nigerians through extortion of young males for driving exotic cars, using laptops, iphones; youth profiling based on fashion choices, dreadlocks, tattoos; they were also known to mount illegal roadblocks, conducted arrests and detained people without warrant or trial and allegedly rape women.



Cameroon has been suffering bad governance and corruption under the leadership of 85 year old president Paul Biya. He has announced his plans to participate in Cameroon's upcoming election amidst the persistent violence and alleged human rights abuses in his country. Paul Biya went to power in 1982 and has led Cameroon since 1982 making him one of the African longest serving rulers. There have been ongoing movements advocating for separation between English speaking (Anglophone) region of the country from the French speaking (Francophone) part. And 20% of Cameroonians reside in Anglophone province. serious unrest in Cameroon with spiralling violence with security forces and armed separatists attacking people in the country's English speaking region. The separatists in Anglophone region have been fighting with the government forces and government back militias for several years since 2016. The Anglophone region protested the government led by French speakers which they do not support and this conflict has internally displaced more than 670,000 people in affected areas while 60,000 Cameroonians fled to neighbouring Nigeria. Recently gunmen attacked and killed 7 children leaving 12 injured in Bilingual school located at Kumba town in Anglophone region of the country. However, no group has claimed responsibility. In February, 2020; 14 children were among 22 people killed by armed men in Ntumbo village. There has been decade long Boko Haram insurgence and Amnesty International reported that English speakers in the country are being targeted by both the Cameroon military and armed Anglophone separatists. Democratic Republic of Congo also known as Congo-Kinshasa, DR Congo historically known as Zaire is located in Central Africa. Congo has been bleeding from the time of King Leopold II of Belgium acquiring Congo as his private property naming it the Congo Free State in 1885 till date. Congo is blessed with abundant mineral resources including Cobalt and Coltan but has suffered from bad leadership, lack of infrastructure, political instability and corruption of the past and present president. These have been creating lots of problems in the Eastern Congo where these mines are located.
